1st Stanza
| |
A spiteful laugh hatched
in his throat and spattered shells across her face.
They fell to the ground as she rose
And crunched beneath her when she walked away.
He sat where she had sat--
That's when he noticed
me watching. |
2nd Stanza
| |
She had been the red fish,
He had been the yellow.
They swam in orange swirls around each other, their bubbles rising up and
up and up
Only to burst. |
| |
 |
3rd Stanza
| |
I wanted to scatter canabis
leaves across the water's surface
The ingestion of such tea would bring them anesthesia I imagined...
They push water beneath
them.
He ascends her,
She ascends him,
Pride streaming between them like Betta fins.
They nip greedily at the leaves then fall to the rockbed below
And sleep... |
4th Stanza
| |
Instead,
She left us.
He waits until he is sure she is gone
Then
Looks for her.
I sit and brainstorm what
he should have done,
What I would have said,
But have never. |
5th Stanza
| |
I am the most beautiful
fish.
I am the color of water.
I have blue accents that are visible when I break the surface
Only to burst. |
